The Community Achievement Awards for Tasmania are about recognising individuals, organisations and groups who are making a difference in our local communities and our State. There can never be enough encouragement and support for those working towards making our State a better place. Awards such as these create an opportunity to say thank you to those who work tirelessly to develop and improve in their chosen field of endeavour.

General Information:
  1. Entry is free. Eligibility for entry is dependant on the award category and may be open to businesses, groups, organisations and/or individuals.

  2. Individual entrants must be Australian citizens.

  3. Nominees must reside in Tasmania and have done so for a minimum of two years.

  4. All criteria should be addressed in your nomination. Supporting documents and photographs must be provided with your nomination. Include a 100 word "highlights/summary of achievements" summary of your nomination for publicity purposes.

  5. All submitted nominations and supporting material remain the property of the Awards office and will not be returned.

  6. Entrants agree to media publicity associated with the awards nomination.

  7. Nominations must not incorporate more than 30 pages in total.

  8. Nominations must arrive at the Award’s office no later than the close of nominations date Friday 29th August 2008.

  9. A full "photo copy" of the entire nomination(all pages) must be submitted with the nomination.


  10. Finalists are required where possible to attend the gala awards presentation ceremony on Saturday 29th November 2008.

Prizes:

All winners will be presented with a trophy and a prize in the relevant category

  • Department of Economic Development and Tourism Business Enterprise Award – The winner will receive a television airtime package comprising 20 x 30 second airtime commercials on Southern Cross Television(* conditions apply).

  • The Franklin Press Events and Tourism Award – The winner will receive a television airtime package comprising 20 x 30 second airtime commercials on the Southern Cross Television (*conditions apply).

  • MAIB Disability Achievement Award – The winner will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • Nyrstar Environment and Sustainability Award – The winner will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • Volunteering Tasmania Volunteering Award – The winner will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • Qew Orchards Outstanding Achiever Award – The winner will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • Angoves Primary Industries and Agricultural Award – The winner will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • Kleenheat Gas Community of the Year Award – The winners will receive a $1,000 AwardSaver Account from the Commonwealth Bank.

  • All nominees and finalists will receive a letter of congratulations and a certificate of encouragement for their nomination.

Judging:
  • Three finalists will be chosen in each category. A winner will be chosen for each category but will not be known until announced at the Awards Gala Presentation evening.

  • Judging will take place on Tuesday 7th October 2008.

  • The judging panel will include representatives from award sponsors and community leaders who have or are making a valuable contribution to Tasmania.

  • The decisions of the judging panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

AWARDS PRESENTATION

The finalists and winners of the Community Achievement Awards for Tasmania will be announced at a special gala awards presentation dinner on Saturday 29th November 2008 at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.

This dinner will be a formal event attended by approximately 330 guests.

Economic Development and Tourism
Department of Economic Development and Tourism Business Enterprise Award
Successful businesses are making important economic contributions to our communities. Creative business and commercial ventures provide opportunities for growth, productivity, leadership, training and employment. Businesses are continuing to realise their corporate vision and mission in areas such as product development, manufacturing and construction, e-commerce, wholesaling, exporting, retailing, trades and other professional services. The Business Enterprise Award will acknowledge successful businesses that also show good corporate citizenship and that are giving back to the community.

The Franklin Press
The Franklin Press Events and Tourism Award
Events and tourism projects provide a valuable source of income, promotion and other positive outcomes for our communities. They provide income generation, education, promotion and employment. Additionally, events and tourism projects may have a positive impact socially and culturally, providing opportunities for people to meet and work together, helping to create a sense of belonging and social cohesion. This helps strengthen pride in our communities and presents opportunities for new experiences, learning and enjoyment. The Events and Tourism Award will shine a spotlight on those involved in promoting and developing their communities through events and tourism.

MAIB
MAIB Disability Achievement Award
There are many people in our community who live with a disability. This Award acknowledges and salutes those people with a disability who successfully integrate into the community or overcome difficulty to become an inspiration to us all. These amazing and outstanding individuals may have achieved what most thought would be impossible, overcome the odds in recovery or rehabilitation or they may be wonderful community citizens and role models that make a difference in and for the community. They may be achieving academically, in sport, art, in community service, education or be inspiring others. The Disability Achievement Award will recognise these amazing and inspirational individuals.

Nyrstar Environment and Sustainability Award
The Environment and Sustainability Award acknowledges a proven passion and dedication to reducing environmental impacts in our State. By implementing environmental and sustainability practices individuals and groups show increased commitment to raising awareness, knowledge and understanding of environmental issues, which will in turn help to protect the planet’s vital resources. This Award will recognise individuals, groups and organisations that aim to improve our patterns of consumption and environmental behaviour. They are environmentally conscious and understand that their actions will encourage sustainable and responsible development in the future.

Volunteering Tasmania Volunteering Award
The Volunteering Award applauds our dedicated volunteers who tirelessly and passionately put the needs of others first. Those selfless men and women who dedicate themselves to others, can often make the difference to someone in need through their guidance, encouragement and much needed support. Volunteers spend their time offering friendship, hope, education, transport and inspiration to those who need it most. The Volunteering Award applauds our unsung heroes, acknowledging those people who are passionate and committed to putting others first.

QEW ORCHARDS
Qew Orchards Outstanding Achiever Award
The Outstanding Achiever Award applauds our high achieving individuals who excel in their profession or chosen field of endeavour. It may be sport, art, culture, leadership, community involvement, academia or career. These individuals are at the forefront of accomplishment and are making a real difference in the community. They are successfully achieving their goals through hard work and are a wonderful role model to all of us. The Outstanding Achiever Award will pay tribute to our talented and dedicated high achievers.

ANGOVES
Angoves Primary Industries and Agricultural Award
The Primary Industries and Agricultural Award applauds our unsung heroes and high achievers working on land or marine farming, forestry and those primary producers who work tirelessly to provide us with food, drink and shelter. Primary industry and agriculture is the back bone of our regional and rural communities. Our highly diversified and sustainable natural resources, forestry, dairy, farming and sheep and cattle industries have a reputation for products that are internationally competitive and among the finest in the world. The Primary Industries and Agricultural Award presents an opportunity for our community to acknowledge those who provide us with food and fibre.

Kleenheat Gas

Kleenheat Gas Community of the Year Award

The Community of the Year Award provides projects, groups, organisations, cities, towns or local government initiatives with an opportunity to gain recognition for their achievements and contributions to their community. These community groups share a strong sense of community spirit, which plays a vital role in enhancing the social and economic prosperity of their community. It is important to recognise and encourage these groups and organisations as their efforts help to make our State a stronger and more vibrant place to live and will develop and promote true comradery and community spirit for future generations to come.
